Out of Office.

I love North Wales.

It’s not as “instagramable” as the Dolomites, Santorini or Mount Fuji, but it’s beautiful and most importantly for me, it’s home.

I’ve shot here for years and have often assumed that there will come a point where I have enough work from here to constitute a book.

The problem is that because I live here, I often postpone photographing it for a perfection that never quite arrives; perfect light, subjects, wind direction, swell, and on. It’s a fallacy, and I’ve realised of late that to get the most out of shooting here I need to shoot as I would in any other part of the world - with urgency.

So this year from March until September, I’ll be updating this page with photographs I’m taking here as I go.

One more thing, none of them will be taken in golden hour.

I’m not the biggest fan of golden hour but it’s a useful tool in any photographer’s arsenal, should they wish to bring more colour and life to subjects. I believe there’s enough interest here that I won’t need to resort to that, and I say that upfront to remove the temptation all together.

So, six months, shooting here at home in all but the black, blue and orange hours. Here goes…
